Narcissism, Psychopathy, and Manipulation

The above article posits that narcissists are better at manipulating people.  I’m not a psychologist, but I have to say something: No kidding!  Additionally, I’ve recently made a life change that resulted in me meeting many people in a relatively short period of time.  I’ve noticed live examples of a lot of the theoretical situations I learned about in college.  I even conducted a few experiments in the social realm for purely educational purposes and found some intriguing results.

The author in this Psychology Today article interviewed Tucker Max– one of the world’s most well-known self-proclaimed narcissists.  What he found was Tucker scored extremely high on the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI), and the “Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test”, which assesses the ability to accurately perceive how someone is feeling based solely on looking at their eyes.  Unsurprisingly, he scored low in the areas of compassion and empathy.

I may be pointing out the obvious here, but if someone is an extreme narcissist, doesn’t that mean, by definition, they don’t have much ability, or time left, to be concerned about others?  (I’ve dated a few men like this!)

The above article provides  a link to take some of these tests to determine where one may fall on the Reading of the Mind in the Eyes” or Narcissistic scale.  I may just take one of them for kicks and grins to find out if, by being so intrigued by the darker side of humanity, I may have some…abnormal results myself!
